Music, connection, and familiar songs that bring people together.
Music has been part of Steve Shofner’s life for nearly as long as he can remember.
As a kid, Steve sang simply because he loved music. Around age 13, he began playing guitar at home while also studying trumpet in school. Over time, music teachers recognized both his musical instincts and flexibility, moving him through a variety of instruments including French horn, baritone, valve trombone, sousaphone, and slide trombone.
During his school years, Steve performed in concert bands, marching bands, and jazz bands, eventually receiving the prestigious Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.
Music continued to remain an important part of Steve’s life over the years, including a memorable chapter performing Victorian Christmas music with a caroling group that originally formed at Mount Hermon Conference Center. What began as seasonal performances eventually expanded into appearances throughout the San Lorenzo Valley, including regular performances at Roaring Camp Railroads and events connected with the San Lorenzo Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Later in life, Steve returned to college full time and further deepened his musical education, ultimately earning an Associate of Arts Degree in Music with honors.
In the years that followed, Steve became deeply involved in worship and community music. Beginning in the late 1990s, he joined the worship team at Pinole Valley Community Church before later becoming part of Bay Hills Community Church, where he continues to serve musically today.
Today, Steve performs live acoustic music throughout the East Bay and San Francisco Bay Area, bringing together familiar songs, warm performances, and a lifelong passion for music.
After decades balancing a professional career with a lifelong passion for music, Steve is now dedicating even more time and energy to live performance, community connection, and growing as a working musician throughout the Bay Area.
Steve performs primarily as an acoustic guitarist and vocalist, while also incorporating electric instruments and professional-quality sound equipment when appropriate for the venue, atmosphere, and musical setting.
Whether performing at a restaurant, winery, community gathering, worship event, or private celebration, Steve’s goal is always the same — create a welcoming atmosphere, play songs people know and love, and leave audiences feeling a little better than when they arrived.
